What is UFOCRAWLER?

The answer to that question is simple, well sort of.  The UFOCRAWLER is a new type of search engine which focuses on a very narrow set of information in order to help seperate the wheat from the chaff.  The idea being that in another large search engine you may put in a search for say "ufo" and get back 45 million results ranging from true results about UFO's to the band UFO to even UFO mugs when what you really want information on is unidentified flying objects.  So by limiting the number of URLs which are indexed then we can limit the number of false positives.

To further decrease the possibility of getting false positives we also moderate the URLs entered.  What this means is that we don't just crawl the web and dump everything into our index, instead we try to keep it to website or pages about the subject matter at hand.  This again helps us to deliver results which are more on target for what your looking for. 

The net result is a smaller number of records, but a higher density of usable information.  And in a technological environment where we as users are hit by information overload smaller datasets can be a welcome result.  You do tend to find what your looking for faster...
