What does this site run on?
Thats a complicated question, the short answer is Open Source!
We run the site on CentOS (linux), Apache, MySQL, PHP, Nutch and a few
other Open Source applications. Open Source is very much about the
freedom of information, a simple idea we share.
The Hardware
Main Server - AMD Opteron 8218 (2.6ghz Dual Core),
8gb RAM, 1tb SATA Raid 5 - From this server we run a series of Virtual
Machines which house the other applications we run for the website.
The Virtual Machines are housed in a VMware Server which is free!
The Search Engine
The core of the UFOCRAWLER search engine is OmniFind Yahoo Edition.
